I was finishing off my locations search sparked by Aghadowey’s replies, when I went to familysearch.org and suddenly discovered a 2019 Crothers researcher named as   Lorraine Valentine with over 20 entries which appear to include the right John Crothers b june 1877 m 1899 Do you know about her contribution, she invites contact thru familysearch .
that lead me to GenesReunited where a hugh in his family tree has numerous entries for Crothers in Lambeg area eg Emma 1877, henry 1876, Margaret1875, Samuel1874, elizabeth1872, mary1870 etc earlier with Drumbo Co down and one back Patrick in Lisburnarea 1835 etc together with many other listed Crothers. you need to join to ask to see the tree. I didnt check wikitrees

Crothers sounds like Carothers, Carrothers, Carruthers and might be recorded under those or a further spelling. They maybe recorded under all., I only used your spelling.
James Crothers possible marriages see https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/  used by Aghadowey
John Crothers  carter [in the birth registration for John his son, b 1877 he is one of 7 out of ten who needs to make his mark on one page of the registry. I read his address written by the registrar eventually as Low Road Lisburn, which  is a ward boundary  so could be in two wards, even Low Road Lambeg? Google images include Low Road  terrace houses Lisburn,   Low Road lisburn continues into Hilden St and then Grand St appearing to be in, or entering,  lambeg parish

The marriage 1899 also showed his name as Cirthers a labourer address as Red Gate ? .Lambeg and her Elizabeth Dodds a spinner 30 Bridge st lisburn both aged 22 in Church of Ireland   see NIFHS IR 575-036 Co. Antrim, Lambeg Parish Church, Inscriptions, Connor Diocese (1937 photocopy) — Cassidy, William Jun.

1862 Griffiths valuation  http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/iwhich continues in revision books up to 1922 in PRONI see next paragraph
Crothers   Samuel   Longstone Street,(Old Warren)   Blaris   Antrim
Crothers   Margaret   Linenhall Court,(Old Warren)   Blaris   Antrim
Crothers   Hill      Piper Hill,(Old Warren)      Blaris   Antrim
Old Warren townland includes Lisburn, I am not sure which townland Low road falls into.

Low road appears in see  PRONI continuation Revision books ie following on Griffiths 1862
eg PRONI Reference: VAL/12/B/8/9H (1885 - 1894) which comes under Lisnagarvy  page 51 of 171  marked continued from??  No Crothers in that section of Low Road I went back to searching Lisnagarvy on Griffiths name books it lists Lisburn’s roads but not Low road I couldn’t find the previous book to1885 and gave up. its still a possibility

Lisnagarvy was an name first given to Lisburn so hence confusion in records. It is also a townland in its own right.

Ros davies Co Down website has http://www.rosdavies.com/has a good section of Crothers. I found a Dodds that might be relevant
John   DODDS   .
Blaris & Lambeg   of 9 Antrim St, Lisburn; son of George Dodds (a scutcher); married Jane Leathem of 124 Grand St, Lisburn 14 Dec 1906 at Lambeg Church of Ireland   CR
Low Road lisburn continues into Hilden St and then Grand St

trying https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ which is worth the time, establishing Crother in numbers in lisburn [greater area] I did wonder did James come from Hill Hall/ Hillsborough which are Co Down
newspaper might record something eg Lisburn Standard in Linenhall library Belfast Lisburn herald Earliest issue: September 12, 1891
Latest issue: December 29, 1956   I think indexed in British library online

Hope something helps
Good luck onwards
