Up until a few days ago there was a notification saying they were overloaded with applications. Probably because of people getting their orders in due to their increase in price.
Today there is this service announcement
"Applications for certificates without an index reference may currently take longer to despatch.
For more information regarding index references please see our ‘Most Customers Want to Know’ page"

Waiting for a certificate is like waiting for Christmas when you were a child. :)

I ordered a marriage certificate and was given a delivery date.  Two weeks after it was due I rand them to be told that they were uanble to give a delivery date.  It has just arrived over 4 weeks after the predicted delivery date.  Not very impressed especially as it cost me £14!!!

You should be able to see the details in your account on the GRO website and see if they have sent it.  I waited for over 2 weeks after the estimated despatch dates for certificates without references, maybe marriages are also taking a while as they have to be paper copies and not PDF's

Oh dear:

Am expecting a Birth Certificate to be posted out April 1. Ordered it 26 March. We will see. Learning patience. Normally can work out children from census or other means. This child lived 13 days in December Qtr 1903 and have her burial record from Durham Records Online. Buried in Tanfield Parish Church Cemetery, County Durham but possibly a Methodist which would mean no baptism at the Parish Church.
No parents given in her death entry. Alice Hilda Burridge, residence for her short life, Causey Row.

In defence of the GRO....
I asked for a birth cert at almost midnight on Thursday 7th March, and it was ready by 10:15 on Wednesday 13th March.

By my reckoning, Friday to Wednesday, discounting the w/e, was well within the 4 day window, and I was very pleased with the service, but if you have been waiting 4 weeks Xinia, perhaps they need a nudge to enquire how their backlog is looking?

Certainly if you are happy with a PDF which you can print, it will be noticeably quicker than a paper cert, even without the additional delay in transit.  My recent PDFs are turned round inside a week.
