Martha Pybus?
« on: Sunday 31 March 19 16:13 BST (UK) »
On my family tree I have John Walker, born 1794 in Heage, Derbyshire, died January 1876 in Belper.  He married Ruth Waterfall 1796-1852 on 6th July 1817 in Duffield, Derbyshire.

On my tree for his parents, I just had Peter Walker and Martha.  But somebody else has her as Martha Pybus, and has a picture (of her?).  This is so far back that I can't find any information at all about either of them.

I am fairly certain I have the information on John Walker and Ruth Waterfall correctly, but going back one generation the information just falls away.

And this Martha Stone is likely to be the one baptised on 11 June 1769 in Duffield, Derbyshire, daughter of Jacob Stone and Martha. Baptismal record on FindMyPast.

Thanks, that makes sense.  These ancestors of mine were coal miners, and the painting of Martha Pybus looked to be of an aristocrat.

I did find a Martha Pybus on Ancestry.com, 1765-1824, spouse John Walker 1760-1834, with ten children including a John Walker born 1793.  But I think somebody confused this John Walker with my ancestor John Walker?

A search of potential marriages between Jacob Stone and Martha brings up two possibles - did he marry twice? Both wives named Martha?

1. Jacob Stone married Martha Halkin, 10 May 1762, Duffield, Derbyshire
2. Jacob Stone married Martha Bowler, 21 Jan 1769, Duffield, Derbyshire

Sorry about the brick wall this may cause!

That is good information, thanks.  I get nowhere with anything earlier than the very end of the 1700's.

There are a few family trees on Ancestry that have Jacob marrying twice as above.

I will try to search for more information.

I did get a possible Jacob Stone 1732-1806, father Joseph Stone born 1695, Darley Dale to 8 August 1776, Wensley, Darley Dale, Derbyshire.
