I have ordered her death certificate to see if there is anything on there that may give away who her family was.

Usually death certs for adults were registered by a spouse or child, or a neighbour, doctor, workhouse master but you did occasionally get siblings or uncles/aunts nephews nieces etc register a death. I would imagine Mary Ann Gasson (Nee Smith's) death was registered by her hubby or a neighbour/doctor but you never know.

Death certs in 1885 England do not give actual parents names. If the death was registered by a parent, it may say "mother" or father" as the informant. By 1885, relationship to the deceased was often given, in the early years it wasn't always the case.

So she died of Meningitis and George was present.

Doesn't help find her family but at least I know he hadn't left already or that he didn't murder her!

And she's aged 28 at death, not 30, which would be the case for an 1885 birth.
