Arthur Lloyd Brace
« on: Monday 01 April 19 14:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Am trying to find more info on my maternal grandfather, Arthur Brace.  Have managed to track down a death certificate (died 20th June 1988 in London) but trying to more on when/where he was born - his death certificate only said about 1919 - & any further info about him & his family.

All I know about him is that he was in the army at some point, he apparently walked with a cane so assume he was injured in the 2nd World War & that he had the odd acting job.  He lived with a Jessie Colquhoun (nee Malcolm) for a while in the Brixton area of London during the 60's.

Any help/pointers welcome.

As he would have been in the Army after 1920 his records are still with the MOD

I can find two entries on the GRO site for an Athur L Brace born 1919

Arthur L Brace Sep 1919 Watford 3a 1251 mmn Lloyd

Arhtur L Brace Jun 1919 Edmonton 3a 826 mmn Langton

The latter birth with mmn Langton was living in Edmonton prior to WW2 with parents and sister Ella and was an Apprentice Toolmaker.

Entries for the military show an Arthur Lloyd Brace joing the Royal Artillery in 1939.

There is a marriage for an Arthur Henry Brace to a Bertha Lloyd Dec 1906 Watford 3a 1387 and the couple appear in the 1911 Census living in Watford with daughters Gwendoline Novella aged 3 and Kitty Lloyd aged 1.

At a guess I'd say your Arthur L Brace is the one born Watford but obviously I cannot be 100% certain. I have found another Arthur Brace, this time an Arthur Leonard, also joining the Royal Artillery in 1940 and I'd guess he is the one born Edmonton.

There is a tree on Ancestry with him being born in Watford  1919 as Rosie99 mentioned ...afraid no parents names  are mentioned ..There is also a mention of a Jessie Wilson Malcolm married to a Herbert Colquhoun ...with pictures of them both

He's probably the one born Watford but I would want confirmation.

Thanks all.  Unfortunately he wasn't listed on my mum's birth certificate but he was living with Jessie Wilson Malcolm (mentioned by Rosie17) at the time my mum was born so we're pretty sure he is the father.  My mum ended up being adopted so finding any further info has proved a bit more difficult.

Jessie Malcolm/Colqohoun did have other children but with Herbert Colqohoun.

A friend of mine has mentioned in the past about 2 different types of birth certificates though - a basic one which is issued at the hospital & where you can refuse to give info and a "full fat mega one" as he puts it where one must legally declare the info.  Does this sound true to any of you?
