In the censuses for 1891 and 1901 (he appears with his brother Jeremiah in 1891) his father is Edwin Whalley, born circa 1826 in Ireland.

Several People have copied the details from others on ancestry..which is what bothers me.  Some Trees I've looked at the owner no longer subscribed to Ancestry. Some that I've contacted haven't replied to my messages.

My concern is the name of Benjamin Whalley's father which he quoted on his 1st marriage details.
No one else has picked up on that yet... it's as plain as day on his Army Record!
See also this below:

Yes I've seen the 1909 marriage register page. But I think the census evidence is compelling - that whatever the father's real name was, he was born in Ireland circa 1826 and known as Edwin.

I can’t see his father’s name on the Army Record.
I agree with Shaun. You have the census information and the witness/brother’s name.
I have seen Edwin and Edward interchanged before and people also are called by their middle name.
He calls his son Edwin Joseph too.

This might be worth noting.
When Jeremiah Whalley, son of Edwin Whalley marries (2nd time)in 1913, a witness is Thomas George Harper. You have mentioned that surname previously.
