Seeking information about Arthur Bannerman of Lothbeg Sutherland
Understood to have been a "plowman". Prior to his emigration to Australia in mid 1800s

Im trying to reply to people who have responded to me and I hope this extra info will be seen
The information I have is:
Arthur Bannerman   Born Approx 1813 - 1815 Birthplace: Louth, Sunderland
Emigrated to Australia in 1839 on a ship called  Lady McNaughton
Father William   A Weaver.  Mother: ? Catherine Someone -- unsure if this is correct
Multiple siblings
I would like to find out who his mother was, more about those siblings and their lives as well as any information about previous generations.
Thank you

Do either of these seem likely?

BANNERMAN ARTHUR
DUGALD BANNERMAN/MARY WILSON (Parents)
20/08/1838
054/20 69 Loth

BANNERMAN ARTHUR
WM. BANNERMAN/ (no mother's name on this)
24/03/1813
054/10 13 Loth

Annie

Add...There's a family in Loth 1841 with what looks to be quite a few children with a son Arthur (3) with Dougald & Mary as parents with Dougald's widowed mother with no forename  ::)

This one from my above post looks more likely although it may not be as many records didn't survive;

BANNERMAN ARTHUR
WM. BANNERMAN/ (no mother's name on this)
24/03/1813
054/10 13 Loth

You can search the OPRs index on scotlandspeople.gov.uk for free, to look for other births to a father named William or as above Wm but to view records you need to buy credits which are very reasonably priced.

Hi diannem7

There are a few more children born in Loth, with only father William showing on the registers:

Bell 1812
Lexy 1823
Mary 1826

Possible sisters to Arthur? Maybe trying to follow up on them could give you further details. Was there an occupation given for Arthur's father William in any of his Australian documents? What is the source to the possible name of Catherine for Arthur's wife? Some family trees give mother's name as Catherine Walker but source is not given.

Hello Monica,
Thankyou.  I think the Arthur Bannerman I'm following did have a sister know as Bell but probably Isabel/Isabella)  I say this because Arthur also had a daughter called Isabella after he married in Australia. I'm not sure about a Lexy, but a Mary is possible because he also had a daughter called Mary.
Anecdotal family evidence also says that Bell might have travelled with Arthur when he came to Australia .. so i guess I can follow that thought too.

Arthur's father William is listed as a Weaver
And I don't have a valid source for Catherine being William's wife/Arthur's mother.   I have however seen reference to Catherine Walker on several well researched family trees.   Perhaps I'll go back to them to see if they have good sources

Thanks again
Dianne
