Afternoon all

Ancestry has dangled a little hint in front of me which is of interest, but I need to find out a bit more about the chap first.

This is from the US Army register of enlistments, which has Mathew Gilligan, a shoemaker from Roscommon, Ireland. Age could be 22 or 32, on the image it's a little indistinct

He looks to have enlisted 17th October 1854.

I wonder if any Rootschatters could dig up anything more about Mathew?

There is a Mathew Gilligan in my husband's tree  baptised 1832 in Granard, so possibly not the same chap.

Mathew Gilligan - Birthyear abt 1832 Roscommon Ireland - Shoe-maker - Enlistment Age 22 years - Boston - 5 Inf.  discharge 17 October 1859 Exp of service.
