Many thanks everyone for your replies for which I have some questions. 

Crisane, are the NZ electoral rolls available on line?

Janette, I will be ordering copies of the marriage and death certificates using "Printout" as you suggest.  It seems you can only search for births more than 100 years ago.  Is it possible to find out about births more recently than that?  Where does all that information appear that you list in your second post and is it available on line?  I have downloaded his will and the probate documents.
Minniehaha, I will try contacting both funeral directors to see if they have surviving records.  The will for Mary Dickson does not appear to be available on line so is there an easy way to obtain a copy?
The reason I am researching this man is that I live in Walton on Thames, Surrey, England and during WW1 there was a hospital here run by New Zealanders for New Zealanders and I am researching the hospital and those who worked there or were treated there.  I recently purchased Alexander Dickson's medals and he was treated at the hospital on more than one occasion.  As I live in the UK I have to rely on documents in NZ being available on line.

Re the will of Mary Boyd Dickson, you could request a "Wellington Archives look up" for this. Maybe start a new topic with this in the subject line......

It is not possible to search for births on line after the 100 year cutoff. Hopefully the funeral directors may have some family details for you.
