Marriage certificates 1836
« on: Friday 05 April 19 13:32 BST (UK) »
Please can you help.

I would like to send for the marriage certificate of my great aunt and uncle to hopefully establish who her father/ mother was. I have all the necessary information but at a loss of where to obtain it.

They were married in Cardiff in 1836. Merthyr Reg office told me to go to Cardiff in person to order one, when I asked could I order on line she didn't know.
I have tried GRO website but can only find births and deaths to order online. Can you order marriage certificates here?

I also tried Cardiff Reg office website and it says that they will only copy from 1837 and if they have the original.

     Any suggestions?

Thanks
Suzanne

Apologies the date is 1863 not 1836.

I could go to Cardiff to order one but it would be far more convenient to order online if possible.

  Thanks

   Suzanne

This is the page you need on GRO website.  You can get the reference number & district from freebmd

If it was 1863 you do not need to use freebmd to do the lookup. You can search for it directly from the GRO index and place the order from the record that you find.

That only applies to births and deaths, see the image I have posted above.

Their names are Sarah Williams and Llewellyn Morley. Married April-May-June 1863, Cardiff.  No mention of any church or chapel that I can find.

After the marriage they lived in Nantgarw, Eglwysilan parish.

The reason I want the marriage certificate is because of a few DNA matches to me with the surname Morley. They claim that my great aunt Sarah Williams was born in Taffs Well, 1845 married Llewellyn and her parents were my gggrandparents Gwenllian and Henry Williams. My other DNA matches to Henry Williams all have independently Sarah born Eglwysilan 1845, married to a George Thomas. Not happy with this I decided to purchase the marriage certificate in order to know who her parents were.

I have Vol 11a page 366 from Free BMD.

     Regards

   Suzanne
