Birth Record - Edith Lewis - 1903
« on: Friday 05 April 19 16:18 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm looking to find the birth record, and hopefully the parents, of my 2x Great-Grandmother Edith Lewis. At present, I've been unable to find a birth record. I have the following info at the moment.

Birth: 28 Feb 1903
Marriage: 16 Aug 1930 at St Laurence's Church in Long Eaton to Dennis Arthur Smith
Death: 1996 - Registered in Ilkeston

Marriage Record states Edith was living at 5 Gibb Street in Long Eaton. It lists her father as William Lewis who was an Engine Driver. He was deceased in 1930 when Edith and Dennis got married.

I found a potential birth for an Edith Frances Lewis, but after looking through the records of that person, the birth date and marriage are different.

As far as I'm aware, she was born in Long Eaton, but that's just what has been handed down through the generations.

Thanks in advance for any help.

:)

Do the marriage witnesses give any clues that could help find her in 1911

Can we assume that her date of birth comes from her death registration?

Added:  Yes, I can see the registration  :)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks for your replies.

Death date came from both the 1939 Register and death certificate.

The marriage witnesses were Walter Halfpenny, Dennis' brother-in-law, and Sidney Ingar, who I haven't come across before.

Not sure how I didn't see this before! Sidney married Jenny Lewis in 1928, which hopefully may be Edith's sister.

Thank you so much for your help :)

Looks like the story passed down about the family always being in Long Eaton wasn't true after all!
