In November 1859 he transferred to the 53rd from the 35th.

Notice the witness names on that baptism.... did Richard have a brother named Thomas William?

As to that medal record you found, it could very well be him.   I can make out that he did get some medals in the scrawly handwriting, but they don't give dates.  They only give dates when his rank changed, and basically ignored all the good stuff that we want to know!

There were at least two earlier children born to Richard and Honora in India:

Harriett born October 8th 1855 baptised Oct 21st at Fort William. Richard then a corporal with the 35th

Richard born November 30th 1857 baptised December 9th at Moulmein. Richard a sergeant with the 35th

Richard's only campaign medal was for service with 35th Foot in the Shahabad district during the Indian Mutiny.
