Ann?? And James Busby 1793 please can you help with the mdn?
« on: Sunday 07 April 19 16:32 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I wondered if someone might be able to help me out with this bride's and witnesses surnames please. It has been transcribed as Sims but I think this is wrong, it may start with a t? There is an I before the last letter. I can find no relevant births for an Anne Sims.
If you can help me out would really help with my brick wall.
Thanks for reading this.
Best wishes
Emma

Hi Emma

'Tims' possibly?

The T/S on the surname looks remarkably like other T's on the page  ('The Mark of....')

Is there anyone else on same page with an obvious S first or surname to compare?    The S on Samuel Sims/Tims is cut off a bit so can't tell  :)

It looks like Tenis to me. There is a dot over the i in each case.

I see it as Tims . The dot for the i has been made a bit far to the right. The Curate officiated at other marriages on the two pages and his T , at the start of the word Tenth , is the same as the first letter of the surname.

Edit : the Banns are also available and they have been transcribed as Tims.

I agree, looking at Mr Parker’s writing of the letter ‘T’ elsewhere on the page, the first letter of the word in question is definitely ‘T’.

I agree with Tims....first letter matches the "T" in the word The.

I can find no relevant births for an Anne Sims.

James Busby and Anne Sims (??)
Marriage by Banns 18 Mar 1793 • Adderbury, Oxfordshire, England (they lived at Steeple Aston).

...but there is one for an Ann Times b 1770 daughter of John (who was a witness at the marriage) at Sandford St Martin less than five miles from Steeple Ashton.
