Thomas Bartholomew bap 16 Oct 1695 Folkington
« on: Sunday 07 April 19 20:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have any information about Thomas's marriage and death.  It is possible he moved to Kent but I don't know if the Thomas in Kent is the same person (there is a Thomas B who married an Elizabeth Clarke in West Farleigh on 17 Apr 1718 and died in Cranbrook, buried 26 June 1751).  The Bartholomews seem to go back to the early 1500s in Folkington and Wilmington areas.  I am assuming they were tenant farmers here. So far, I haven't been able to find any Wills, tax records, etc.  Does anyone know who possible landowners in the area were?  Many thanks for any help.

The marriage record indicates that Thomas was resident in Yalding while Elizabeth was resident in Frant.

Have you checked out the will of Thomas Bartholomew of Folkington dated 1725 probate granted 1732 ?  Is that his father?

Hi Nell

Thank you for this.  I have not come across this Will.  Do you have a link to it?  Thomas's father was another Thomas and died 1731 so it is likely this is the same one.  Regards,

The will was proved at Lewes:

It should be viewable on FamilySearch but I'm having real difficulty finding it  ::)

John has a knack and often seems to be finding wills for people.  He found one for me only a couple of days ago that I searched for endlessly on familysearch and couldn't see.

I'm glad he found it - I was going cross-eyed looking, not helped by the browser freezing with blurred images.

Sadly it doesn't really help in establishing whether the Kent Thomas is the son of Thomas the testator.

I'm still unsure how to look for this type of document on FamilySearch as absolutely nothing came up when I searched - I must be doing something very wrong.  Thank you for your help and I'm very grateful.  It is a pity though that the Will isn't a little more illuminating as I can't establish where my Barts sprang from prior to Yalding.
