It was really easy when I bought a new iPad. I'd backed everything up, followed the instructions, just put them next to each other, went and made a cup of tea and when I came back everything was on the new iPad. I then reset the old one to factory settings to clear everything off, and gave it to my sister! Just as easy as well when I updated my iPhone.

When you reset the old one, did the back up on the new one stay intact? That’s my main worry, that I’ll lose the back up and with it my photos

I did it this way using iCloud.

Yes everything stayed on the new iPad as I reset the old one to factory settings before giving it away. From what I remember you mustn't be connected to iCloud, iTunes or the App when you reset it, as that would delete stuff from there.

I’m going on holiday soon so I think I might wait until I get back, can’t face the stress of it all going wrong before!

One thing I do need to decide, now that apple have given the ability to remove certain pre installed apps, is do I want to keep Garage Band  ;D

Can’t really see myself using it somehow.

I have got shot of Stocks and Shares, and friend Finder, I never used those on any iPad or iPhone that I’ve had.

Still wondering about podcasts, I’ve never listened to one in my life, but who knows?

Regarding your old iPad, try charging with your new cable (so long as it’s the same type).  Cables usually need replacing before the battery.
I usually plug into an extension lead but found using a new cable into a wall socket (we’ve changed most of our double  wall sockets to ones that also have usb connections too) and my IPad came back to life.

Going back to factory settings won’t delete your iCloud account from the cloud as that is attached to your Apple ID and not device

FYI, android allows you to to connect to iCloud....  well they are not going make it difficult to change over are they  ;D  apple on the other hand  ::)
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

From the information I followed it did say to sign out of iCloud, iTunes and Aps before taking it back to factory settings. I did that to be on the safe side and everything was fine.

As regard to cables, I bought new ones that are thicker and sturdier than the white ones that came with the iPad and iPhone and I found that they charged quicker.
