Canada
« on: Wednesday 10 April 19 02:50 BST (UK) »
Hi, I found out yesterday that 2 of my Great Grandmothers sisters moved to Canada at the beginning of the 20th Century, prob around 1904, am I able to find out any further information as to what ship they sailed on or why?  They were Elizabeth Wilding b1889 and Emily Barbara Wilding b1882 and they sailed to Ottawa, Ontario. It looks as though they married a pair of brothers or cousins. Any advice gratefully received as always. Richard
James, Jinks - Stoke On Trent,  Richards, Rees, Morgans - Llandilofawr, Llangadock, Wilding- Hereford, Underwood, Sitch, Thorne, Day all West Ham, and Leytonstone. .

Emily's marriage, showing Walter as a father?

You may want to ask a moderator to move this to the Canada board.  ;)

This looks like them coming over in 1914, but they said they were headed to Saskatchewan, and their occupations are very odd for women at that time!  I'm thinking there was a paper mix-up there for whoever wrote up the ship list.

If you have been using familysearch, you should have found Elizabeth's marriage to an Albert Moore.

Thank you , that's amazing, what occupation could you make out, conductor and warehouseman ?

Are you able to see what ship they sailed on?

Yes I had the marriages, to what I assume are brothers or at least cousins

Sorry, forgot I linked to the exact page!

Arrival Date:    16 Apr 1914
Arrival Port:    St Johns, Newfoundland, Canada
Vessel:    Royal Edward

Generally, women were listed as "domestics", so I'm not sure what is going on there.  It's almost like the passenger list was written up, and the person copied info from the wrong tickets?  I'm trying without success to find them in the UK in 1911, but so far, no luck.

I believe this to be the daughter of Emily Barbara; a death notice in the Ottawa Journal states she was residing in Quebec, but being interred in Beechwood Cemetery.  I assume she wanted to be buried near her parents.
