Meehans and Mcneills
« on: Wednesday 10 April 19 08:40 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on Mary Meehan born c 1846 and her family.
She was married in Liverpool in 1865 to David Smyth Mcneill. She was the Daughter of George Meehan  a bookkeeper. The couple went over to Belfast and had a son James Joseph in 1867,between that date and the 1871 english  census Mary appears with James in Salford Lancashire still down as married by 1881 she is widowed.Don't know where David was born but he was of full age when they married and his father was William a linen draper.
Appreciate it if anybody can give me any info on the families whilst they are in Ireland.
Thanks
Dotty

For reference-
Marriage 12 Feb.1865 Liverpool- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2Y9-Y4M

I haven't found a Belfast birth for James Joseph McNeill or any child of that marriage. Did you find his birth registration of is year and place based on some other record? (also checked births in England/Wales without finding anything).

After doing some searching I found you've another McNeill topic with more details  :-\

Have a David Smyth Mcneill of full age marrying a minor Mary Meehan in 1865 in Liverpool. It appears they go over to Ireland and have a son James Joseph christened in Belfast. On the 1871 Mary appears with James born Belfast down as a hairdresser , born Antrim married and living in Salford -no David.

So does this mean that you found a christening record in Belfast for James Joseph but not an actual birth registration? Date? church? details, please

Baptism very difficult to see on Catholic NLI site
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633213#page/8/mode/1up

It is the third one on the left page.

Indexed as 8th February 1867 but the record seems to show 25th November as birthdate.

James Joseph McNeill parents David McNeill and Mary Mehan.
There is something written after David McNeill but I can’t read it.

Thanks, Heywood. Hadn't looked for R.C. baptism as OP just said St. Peter's and hadn't clarified if R.C. of COI.

Thought the word after his name may have been Paisley but  then I am not sure when I have looked again
