Same man or not?
Warwick and Warwickshire Advertiser - Saturday 29 October 1831
Whipped and discharged
Thomas Betts for stealing 2 and 1/4yards kerseymere the property of Joseph Partridge and another.

There could be several Thomas Betts, or the same one, as he does pop up in reports.

There are quite a few Thomas Betts born 1814 Birmingham on FamilySearch but most can be discounted as they appear in the census's from 1841 onwards. This leaves 2  ...

Thomas Betts  19 Dec 1814  Birmingham.  father Benjamin.  mother Mary.
Thomas Molding Betts   21 Feb 1814   Birmingham.  father Samuel.  mother Ann.

Did Thomas marry in Australia, if so what were his childrens names? They may give a clue as to his parents.

His offense in 1832 appears to be "cart robbery"

The newspaper definitely says lard - newspapers are frequently wrong.

Cart robbery lard robbery- little difference. :)
