Thanks both for your time looking up information.  The 1911 census states he had 14 children.  Some with Emily and some with Lavinia.  I found some born in India born under the surname Hanson or McLeish.  I cannot find a death record for Emily.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

I think that death is right for his wife , Emily. The Burial Register for Exeter St Leonard reads :

Emily Hanson , alias McLeish , abode St Leonards , March 5 1875 , aged 37.
