William Caunt 1721-1795, Plungar
« on: Saturday 13 April 19 20:04 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone, I am trying to find out more about William Caunt 1721-1795. He's buried in Plungar, and his gravestone indicates he was a gentleman. Although I think I've found his parents, spouse, children etc, I am trying to find out more about his life as a gentleman, and would appreciate any help or advice! Thank you in advance!

I can't see any mentions of him in newspapers of the day (that I have access to) however there is a William CAUNT listed as Freeholder of house and land in Plungar in a voting list of 1775.

"The poll for a Knight of the Shire to represent the county of Leicester. Begun on Thursday the 12th of January 1775, and continued till the 26th of that Month. Candidates, John Peach Hungerford, Esq; and William Pochin, Esq;"  printed by John Gregory, 1775.

I can't seem to be able to attach an image here, pm me if you'd like to have a copy.  :)

There are wills of William Caunt of Plungar dated 1739, which mentions eldest son William, and 1794, which lists children etc.

Also some earlier ones from nearby Stathern and Eastwell.

They are on www.findmypast.co.uk which needs a subscription or credits.

Hello DCB; i have a FindMyPast sub but I canít see the wills you mention. Which search terms did you use?

ó sorry, ignore, found them! I get quite confused around that county border, unfortunately as my bunch spent some generations moving backward and forwards there!

As far as I know from my research no, but let me know if you find one who fits in!

Thank you very much everyone else!
