"surgeon who saw
 deceased
  October 8th"

She died on 9th October 1858 so yes I think the surgeon saw her on the 8th.

Thank you all very much.

Yes, I can see that now  :)

He appears as Angus in the 1871 census. It seems Aeneas was a 'Latinised' form of Angus http://www.whatsinaname.net/male-names/Aeneas.html

It's totally irrelevant to your enquiry, but I've just been following up 'Aeneas'. It's all a bit of a sad decline.

His wife died at the age of 28 in 1873.

In 1876 he pleaded guilty at Dumfries Sherriff Court to 11 charges of issuing false vaccination certificates.

By 1877 he was appointed medical practitioner in Middleton in Teesdale, County Durham. In 1878 he was involved in a Bankruptcy action. By the end of 1878 he had been suspended from his post and left the district. He died in Leeds in 1880. In 1881 his two young daughters are found living one in Hastings and the other in Bramley, Leeds.

I'll stop now  ;D
