Dorset Family History Society’s Monthly Meeting
« on: Monday 15 April 19 14:38 BST (UK) »

Dorset Family History Society will be meeting on Monday 13th May 2019 at St John’s Church Centre Hall, Ashley Road (opposite Waitrose), Upper Parkstone, Poole, BH14 0AA.

Doors open at 19.30 for 20.00 start.  Entry is £2 to include refreshments.

LES MITCHINSON will be giving an informative talk entitled ‘QUARTER SESSIONS RECORDS’.

Quarter Sessions Records are the oldest public records of the historic counties of England and Wales that survive. In some counties they survive from the 15th century but are mostly from the 17th century to 1972, when they were replaced by Crown Courts. These records can be found in County Record Offices, the British Library and smaller City and Town Record Offices. However, they have often been ignored by family and local historians.

Les returns after his informative talk on records of the workhouses and the poor laws, to look into another not so well used source of information and he leads us through these records. Les is a professionally qualified genealogist and runs his own business specialising in courses in family history and genealogy.

EVERYONE WELCOME
