Auction results
« on: Monday 15 April 19 14:55 BST (UK) »
Not even sure if "results" is the word I'm looking for, but I can see my GGG-grandfather's "dwelling house, and the barn, shippons and outbuildings with the close or parcel of land belonging thereto" being advertised for auction by my GG-grandfather with an auctioneer called John Topham in Kirkham in 1869, but I'm struggling to find out what the lot sold for. Google seems to be drawing a blank and there's nothing immediately obvious in the Lancashire Archives catalogue.

Would auctions be registered anywhere?
Houghton - Lancashire, inc. Manchester
Robertson - Angus
Collinge - Yorkshire, Lancashire, USA
Nedderman - Lancashire
Lane/Fryer - Kent

Probably only if the Auctioneer kept records that survived and were sent to the County Archives.

You could try local newspapers to see if they have a report of the auction -- tho they might not have reported prices for privacy reasons.

Same as nowadays you can see what price a house or other property was advertised for sale at, but no way of telling if the vendor accepted a higher or lower offer
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

Agree with marmalade, it is unlikely that sale price of property was in newspapers.

I see that Robert Houghton, was lately deceased have you a copy of his will or administration? Depends if this property was classed as personal property but bequests should indicate the value of his personal estate.

In 1861 census the property was Willow Cottage, Robert described as yeoman.
