Royal Engineers 692 AW COY WW11
« on: Monday 15 April 19 20:44 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out  information on the unit my father served in during WW11.
I know he was at DD Day building the Mulbery Harbour also Northern France, El Alemain & Italy and possibly at Dunkirk.  I have his medals with campaign medals for the different theatres.

I been searching various Royal Engineer records, but drawn a blank.  But one search mentioned the 692 company was a General Construction Company attached to the Royal Engineers.  He never talked much about his war experiences, but did say he mined and destroyed bridges in Northern France.  I also think he was based in Southern Ireland for a short time before the DD invasion.

If some can let me know more information about this unit, I would be really grateful

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

Do you have a copy of your father's service record? You can apply for a copy from MOD, cost is £30; however if your father or mother are still alive then they can apply without cost.

Thank you for your reply, yes I am in the process of applying for my fathers service record.

It would be good to know any further information about the role of this unit and regiment it was attached to as well.

Although the wait is frustrating it's better to get his record first as that will tell you he was with & for what period.
As he was in a number of theatres of war it's possible he moved from one Coy. to another.
He certainly did his bit.
