Think I just put in first names and Derbyshire but not sure,  got confused with all the Hunts/Murcotts and Baxters and then I had to go to work so well done everyone, coming along nicely :).

Hi everyone,

Finally got the marriage certificate today!

Violet's father is listed as Frederick Henry Murcott, husband of her aunt, Lucy Baxter. Obviously after all your help and research, this appears to have actually been John Hunt.

I'm going to send off for the death certificate of Violet's mother, Agnes Hunt (Baxter); as her death was registered at the same time as Violet's birth, maybe she died in childbirth as avm228 said. Therefore, I wonder if Violet even knew she was adopted by Lucy and Frederick?

Violet is recorded as being in Domestic Service on the marriage certificate and her husband George is a Basket Maker. This seems to confirm a story handed down that they met when Violet used to pop into a shop where he sold his baskets, which is nice to find out! :D

Thank you all for your help. I never met Violet but it's been lovely telling my relatives when we never really knew anything before. :)

Just to add, it states they were married at Long Eaton Register Office. As I live nearby, I know there's a church in Long Eaton and lots of my relatives were married there.

Neither had been married before, and I'm just wondering why they were married at the Register Office as opposed to the church. Does anyone know of any reason why this would happen?

Perhaps they were not religious, or belonged to different religious denominations so compromised on a civil ceremony?

Is there any likelihood that Violet was pregnant at the time of the marriage?  Sometimes that prompted people to marry at the register office so as to save blushes.
