The 1939 England and Wales register
« on: Thursday 18 April 19 16:03 BST (UK) »
Am I right in thinking that if a relative is listed in the 1939 register and they were born in 1925, then that person must be dead?

Thanks

Not necessarily there are many cases of living people not being redacted.

Not necessarily.

My friend was 80 last September - very much alive at her party - but her entry is not redacted ::)

My ex-neighbour will be 100 in October but when the 1939 was first released - his entry was visible.

Thanks for that guys. That may explain why I can't find any death record for this relative. He may still be alive, aged 93.

It does all seem a bit random. This chap's brother (my father in law) died in 2013 yet his entry on the same page of the register is still redacted.

It isn’t surprising if the entry for a person who died as recently as 2013 is still redacted.

My mother died in June 2016.  Her 1939 entry was unredacted when probate was completed.

My sister (the executrix) and I had copies of the death certificate, but we hadn't applied to have the entry opened and no-one else in the family would know how to.
