Trying to find out about Ellen Gomm born 1887 in Birmingham

Hi all,

Trying to trace my great grandmother's family. I have found her birth certificate but can not find her on the 1891 or 1901. She married John Thomas Perry in 1907 in Kings Norton. She died in 1929.

My dad seems to think that she was in a workhouse with her mother and sister but I have found nothing.

Would love is someone could help me.

Can you tell us who her parents are from the birth certificate please?  That will hopefully help with finding her in 1891 and 1901.

It was on the birth register and it does not state any parents names. My dad keeps saying Sarah and Elizabeth but was not sure which name was the mother or the sister.

The dash for mmn generally means out of wedlock, so the mother's maiden name is also Gomm.   There is an unconfirmed tree on Anc. indicating Sarah is the mother.

I've seen a family tree with Ellen on and it gives her mother as Sarah Ann Gomm born 1862 and a sister Elizabeth Gomm born 1894 so it appears from that both children were illegitimate.

There is an Elizabeth Ann GOMM (mmn blank) 1882 Birmingham.
