Evasive German Great Grandad

Hi all. His name was ' jacob jager' until 1881 lancashire census when it had changed to 'hunter' he married a 'sarah lythgoe' in boston mass' usa in 1867 ( she was born in liverpool lanc's 1845. He was a seaman born in prussia 1849 ( no place name ) had a daughter 'sarah' born in boston 1873 under name 'jager'  no further sign of family until 1881 british census under name of 'hunter'
I am trying to find where in prussia he came from and what shipping line he sailed under, if this can be found then just maybe a place name in germany can be found and break this brick wall !!

At least you have his parent's names from the marriage record which may help find him

You say the marriage was 1867 but the record in my previous post says 1868.

They were in Liverpool in Feb 1878 when their son Jacob Haigh Hunter was baptised at Holy Trinity Toxteth Park. Father Jacob a labourer.
However Jacob junior's birth was registered in the name John Haigh Hunter March 1/4 1878 registration district West Derby and Toxteth Park. vol 8b page 280 Mother's maiden name Lythgoe.

There are two other birth registrations in the same reg dist, surname Hunter mmn Lythgoe.

So we now know they were in Liverpool area mid year 1876

Your search agrees with my own and George married again a couple years later, but what I would dearly like to know is when the " Jager/Hunter" family arrived in L'pool from Boston,got to be between birth of Sarah in 1873 ( Boston) and 1878 (birth of Jacob Haigh) I have searched ships lists with no success, by the way Jacob senior was listed as a seaman on Boston 1870 census ! also when did the name change happen?
