Adam Reihnhardt Metz Germany ?
« on: Saturday 20 April 19 14:14 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Can anyone please help.
I am researching the Metz family in Germany and The Netherlands, in particular Friedrich Emil Metz born 1822 Leipzig died 1890 Lingen  married two Gelshorn sisters    i have found a  link for Franz Wilhelm Metz  who i believe to be his brother. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Wilhelm_MetzWikipedia and it states parents as Adam Reihnhard Metz and Rosinna Otto.

On Ancestry there is a tree showing them as parents but says that Adam supposedly chose a brand new last name and walked away from his past. Apparently he had been persecuted somewhere (Hungary?) and had fled to Germany.

I have no access to contact the person who owns the tree but am trying to find the marriages for Friedrich, would the fathers name be on certificates as they are in the UK

Sorry if this sounds vague but i am at a complete standstill with this as i do not understand German Documents.

Is there anyway of proving that Adam is the father?

Thank you
kd

I think I may have the wrong family, I am still interested in finding any information on Freidrich Emil Metz.

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Hi kd

i have found a few doc´s that may help.
Firstly, i think it is questionable that the two Gelshorn wives were sisters. They may have been cousins

I found the following:

1. the marriage record for Friedrich Emil Metz, born 14 Jul 1822 in Leipzig, and Catharina Gelshorn Lingen, in 1852. There his father is stated as being Adam Metz, no mother mentioned. Catharina Gelshorn was a widow when she married Friedrich Emil. Quite an achievment considering the fact she died in 1857 aged 28.

2. the birth record for Catherina Gelshorn in 1828. Father: Johann David Gelshorn. Mother: Maria Wellinghof

3. the marriage record from 1857 for Friedrich Emil Metz, born 14 Jul 1822 in Leipzig, and Friederike Gelshorn, born 19 June 1833. There his father is stated as being Adam Reinhard Metz, mother Johanna Rosina Otto. Friederike Gelshorns father is stated as being August Wilhelm Gelshorn, mother Wilhelmine Goosmann.
The birth records from Lingen have no entry for Friederike Gelshorn in 1833

4. the death record for Catherina Metz(Gelshorn), 2 march 1857. Stating she was the daughter of Johann David Gelshorn and Maria Wellinghof, widow of Ernst Hohmann and wife of Friedrich Metz

I also have the records from some of the children

Hello Davecapps,

Thank you so much for the information. This is my Daughter in Laws direct line.

It looks like i did have the right family after all.

I have been doing my own family for quite a while but have never had to deal with German records, i have had some help with Dutch records and found the Noord-Hollands archief and Open Archives really helpful.

Are you related in anyway?
