Shipping Records to Calcutta, India = Goddard family
« on: Sunday 21 April 19 00:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I don't have access to any shipping records from England to Calcutta, and was wondering if anyone could assist me with any information for the years 1870 to 1874 for the Goddard family.

George Weavings Goddard and his wife Harriet Sarah Hickmott were married on the 19th March, 1870 at Calcutta, India, the family having a Leather Merchant business in Calcutta.   I am particularly looking for any shipping records for Harriet Goddard who was travelling between India and England on a regular basis.   Harriett seemed to share time between India and London, one of her children was born at Fulham in 1875, and the children attended boarding school over the years in UK.

So if anyone can help, would really appreciate that, we need the years 1870 to around 1875 please.
It is also possible that she travelled under her christian name Hickmott, but most likely not.

Thanking you in advance.

I don't think there are any passenger lists before 1878.   You probably already have this...

Harriett and all the children were living in Wandsworth in 1891.

solidrock,
Yes, thank you, I have all this information you mention from Graeme Cheeseman.   Have an amazing DNA match which leads to this family, if only we could prove something!!   Shame nothing before 1878, yes I note that Harriett was with the children in 1891, but one child was born in Fulham, London in 1875.   We are more interested in the one for 1873 born in Calcutta.

In the meantime, it would be interesting to see if there are any shipping records after 1878 then.

The 1891 census is shown living at 70 "Alipose House", Wandsworth, Mother Harriett Sarah Goddard and children, George Charles is definitely George C. Goddard, there is Edward W.L. Goddard born before him.

I think she may have been based in Calcutta, at least in 1873, 1876 - 1878, 1881-1883...

I think Harriet's husband was noted as a Bootmaker on the 1870 marriage.
