Researchers
« on: Monday 22 April 19 11:11 BST (UK) »
I have done quite a lot of work on my family tree over the years but I have hit a brickwall with my maternal grandfather. I've tried everything including DNA but to no avail so far. I've even posted on this site for help and people have offered advice but I'm beginning think that my brain is getting old and I can understand so far but then it just seems to stop being able to work out what to do next. I'm wondering how much it would cost to ask an expert to just help me over this hurdle. Being a pensioner I realise that I may not be able to afford it so this is just a request for a ball-park figure of the possible cost? Does anyone have any idea?  ???

Hi, well we can try to help.
Name of Ancestor?
Approx. year of Birth, death and Marriage.
The country where they were born or where they went to live and country of death.
Any unusual names of children.
Any little snippet would help.

As you will see Maggsie from Mckha489's post this is a search which I have been in the throes of for many years. I have done a lot of work on it and have lots of certificates etc. You will also see if you follow the links all the details of my search but as I mentioned in this post I am thinking that my old brain is just not up to understanding how to use my DNA results to work out the answer I seek. I've tried everything else that I can think of but to no avail. That's why I wondered if I could afford to ask an expert to just help me with this one question or if it would be too expensive.

To answer your original question, as a general guide many qualified professional researchers will charge between about £20 and £35 per hour, although a few may be cheaper and some a lot more expensive.

You may find the advice on this page useful ...

Interestingly enough, Edith Annie Toulson married Charles Parker in Ecclesall Bierlow, West Riding of Yorkshire, circa June 1934. Edith was born in Ecclesall Bierlow, West Riding of Yorkshire.
Edward Foster Stephenson was born, circa September 1863, in Hemsworth, West Riding of Yorkshire and died in March 1930 in Ecclesall Bierlow, West Riding of Yorkshire. Could this just be a coincidence??

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I have the marriage certificate of Enoch Harrison and Edith Annie Toulson. I have also investigated them and I can't find any obvious connection with my gran Edith Annie Toulson. There were a lot of Toulsons living in Sheffield at that time. There must have been a connection way back in the dim and distant though but I couldn't find it.
