Where is this street? Whiteinch, Partick
« on: Tuesday 23 April 19 07:49 BST (UK) »
My great-Grandpa Patrick McManus was born at 14 Bell Street, in Whiteinch, Partick in 1908. His family were from Coatbridge so I am trying to work out why he was born in Partick...

Can anyone help me find this location? I wondered if maybe the street had changed names as I’ve been having trouble finding it...

Many thanks!

Bell Street, Whiteinch apparently changed to Tyne Street, W4, per http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/info-streetschanged1.html .

First map on link above. Find Burgh Hall, George Street, below the letters A and R in words Partick West (in red print), with Dumbarton Road below, then what looks to possibly say Bell Street (?) almost opposite Burgh Hall, adjoining Dumbarton Road.

From the National Library Scotland  https://maps.nls.uk/view/75661965  its to the right hand side of this clip and runs from (what was )Yoker Road (now Dumbarton Road) to North Street (now Northinch Street)  - the area has been cleared and rebuilt. To find the area on a modern map - find Northinch Street and follow it along - there's an odd looking offshoot which heads North and which is also called Northinch Street and thats roughly where Bell Street was located.

Ah, so it did say Bell Street on the first map then. Well confirmed, Falkryn.
