COMPLETED - THANK YOU! Albert George Murrell mystery
« on: Tuesday 23 April 19 12:54 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm having a bit(a lot ::)) of trouble with Albert George Murrell, born 29 Oct 1872 to George William Murrell and Rachel Anne Daynes. He married Mary Ann Wade 03 April 1893 in Norwich. I have found them together in 1901 in Norwich, Mary Ann is then alone in 1911 living in Great Yarmouth, with it stating that the head of household is away at sea, but then I have nothing for him.

The thing that confuses me is, Mary Ann remarries in 1927 to a James Sandell, she is then a widow in the 1939 register. On her death index, she is Mary Ann Murrell, and then on both her death return and burial entry she is "Mary Ann Murrell or Sandell, of 6 Morley Street, Norwich. Wife of Albert George Murrell, a Rivetter".

I'm assuming Albert may have been lost at sea, although I haven't found anything.

I hope that all makes sense  ::) ???

Thanks in advance :)

Hello  Kirsty
I don't know how to put this but to me it sounds like he didn't die they just split up.
There is a Albert George Murrell with the  same date of birth and job on the 1939  index in Northampton. He has a wife but not Mary Ann.
There is a death in Kettering
Albert G Murrell age 83 Dec 1955
He was working for a Mr BHC Stringer in 1938 and is mentioned in an article on the man's funeral.
In his Will ,national Will index his exec are Lillian Bowers wife of Frank Henry and Annie May Wilkins wife of Charles Francis Thomas Wilkins.

I can't see another Albert George born at the same time in England and Wales.
I can't give you the 1911 in but from Familysearch
George 38 Norwich
Alice   36 Norwich
Lilian 6 Northampton St Andrew
Annie 2 same.

Alice's maiden name was Alice Maude Stone.
There doesn't seem to be a marriage. In 1901 she is living in Philadelphia Lane Norwich and is a boot fitter.

If Mary Ann died in 1946 then you may find that Albert and Alice married very soon after.

Oh thank you both very much!

I didn't even consider the fact that they may have split because of the "away at sea" on the census.

I have found an Albert G Murrell & Alice Maude Stone marrying in Sep quarter 1946 in Norwich, they definitely didn't wait around, Mary Ann died 24th August!

Thank you both again
