HOLROYD, George - 1806, Linthwaite, Yorks
« on: Tuesday 23 April 19 14:26 BST (UK) »
Hi all.  I'm looking for the birth details/parents of a George Holroyd who lived in the Linthwaite area of Huddersfield.  Census information indicates he was born around 1806 in Linthwaite but I've been unable to find confirmation.  He worked in the mills but went on to become a farmer in that area.
Thanks for any pointers.  J

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, was he the George Holroyd who married a Nanny Kilner 26th June 1836 Almondbury, All Hallows, as both 1841/51 census he and Nanny & family are showing with a Hannah Taylor, in 1851 shown as aged 86 Aunt.

EDIT  A Nanny Kilner born 16th February 1807 baptism 15th March 1807 Huddersfield Father Abraham Mother Hannah Taylor?
Hannah b Dec qtr 1844 Huddersfield is Hannah Taylor Holroyd mmn Kilner.

Seeing as the first apparent born was a John, wondering if he is the George Holroyd baptism 10th November 1805 Elland, St Mary abode Rastrick Father John Mother Mary?

Many thanks for your reply, greatly appreciated.

Yes, that's George (married to Nanny Kilner).  I have wondered about the Rastrick birth in 1805.  I believe the father/John was a mason which bothered me as no-one else has that occupation.  George is listed as a farmer in the 1861 census and I wonder where that farm came from.  A further census entry in 1841/Almondbury has a John Holroyd aged 60 (farmer) married to a Hannah (55).  I suppose this could be a 2nd marriage if Mary Carter died.

The Kilner's connect to the Holroyd family again through John Taylor Holroyd's marriage to his first cousin, Ellen Kilner.
Your message about Hannah b Dec qtr 1844 I didn't understand - mmn??

I think I need to look further into John and Mary of Rastrick.  Thanks again.

Keyboard86

EDIT Also the Williams name crops up in the Holroyd children:-

Charles Williams Holroyd Sept qtr 1842 Huddersfield mmn VULNER

Mary Williams Holroyd March qtr 1847 Huddersfield mmn Kilner

Also was Nanny the illegitimate child of Hannah Taylor with father Abraham Kilner as we have a Hannah Taylor with George/Nanny in 1841/51, no an Abraham Kilner married a Hannah Taylor by banns 8th February 1796 St Peter, Huddersfield, but an Abraham Kilner also married a Ruth Hepworth 29th October 1818 Almondbury All Hallows?

A burial for an Abraham Kilner 15th April 1841 Almondbury, All Hallows aged 71?

Loads of other children for Abraham Kilner/Hannah Taylor/Hannah from 1801.
