Worksop burials 1865
« on: Wednesday 24 April 19 11:07 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to find out where my relatives may be buried. They lived on Newgate Street, Worksop and died in 1865. I have tried without any success to find which cemetery was open and being used at that time. The obvious one would be Retford/Manton Road but I believe that didnt open until 1901. Any information would be very welcome.
Thanks
Karen

Welcome to RootsChat  :)  Have you tried the local churches in Worksop?  Plus there was, according to Genuki, a new cemetery opened in 1866 next to the church

I’d suggest Worksop Priory.  My ancestors were buried there prior to your date but I think burials were still happening there much after that.

Thanks for your replies. Im not local to Worksop and dont know the area at all. I thought i would be able to "Google" a list of burial places in that area and the dates that the places were active but ive not been able to find anything.
I will take a look at Genuki to see what I can find.
Thanks
Karen

Welcome to Rootschat. There are 215 burials listed at St Mary (Priory ) in 1865. If you would like to give me names I can check them for you.
You say relatives....for instance
There are 4 Shaw children all buried in December.
There are 2 Peck children buried in November.

Thanks Larkspur for your offer.
I am looking for JOHN DRURY born 1803 Worksop died 1865 Apr/May/Jun age 62 and his wife ELIZABETH DRURY  born 1803 Worksop died just before her husband 1865 Apr/May/Jun also age 62.
I have found different spellings = Drury/Druery/Drewry/Drewery
Also other names from Worksop are Adkin/Atkin, Lister and Sprowell/Sprawell
If you can find anything for me that would be brilliant.
Thanks
Karen

Hi larkspur

We’re you asking me if I needed a lookup for ‘The Priory’ for Shaw’s?!

No, I was just giving an example of multiple burials for surnames in 1865.
