Annotation to the Will of Newton SMITH
« on: Thursday 25 April 19 09:10 BST (UK) »
I have an interesting annotation to the will of Newton Smith of Barrowby who died in 1728. The annotation appears to be dated 1735 and I think his wife Catherine is marrying again, however I cannot read it all. I am of course particularly interested in the names as well as what seems to have happened.

Perhaps some very kind soul can read it for me please. Thank you

Bless you both, thank you so much, Goldie 61 for the transcription and Ciderdrinker for the marriage. No I had not found that although I had gone through Find My Past, Ancestry and Free Reg several times to try and see some surname that might just be the new one. I missed that.

This is a very interesting piece of research. Newton Smith was the son of Benjamin Smith who in turn was half brother to Sir Isaac Newton. There is little online about Benjamin who took after his father Barnabas Smith and entered the Church. Benjamin seems to have had a quiet life with the living at Halton Holgate in Lincolnshire.

There is a lot of information about Benjamin's sisters, Mary and Hannah who married well having been introduced into society by their half brother.

Newton's younger brother, Benjamin junior, also entered the Church. Sir Isaac Newton also took him under his wing. Some get Benjamin junior mixed up with his father.

Can I please add another little piece I cannot read. This is the name of one of the Executor's of Newton Smith's Will, the other was his father in law William Willoughby. Both are on the will itself.

The person concerned was a Druggist of the City of London.

Thank you.

Wow, thank you horselydown86. That is very helpful indeed. Where did the record come from please? Tried looking for it of course, but did not have any luck. Looks like a newspaper death notice.

It's apparently from an edition of The London Magazine.

The URL is here:

https://www.libraryofdance.org/manuals/1750-London-Magazine_(Goog).pdf

I found it by putting this text into the common search engine:   "george sisson" citizen druggist london

It's the Library of Dance entry in the results.

Thank you, horselydown86. I would never have thought to look at a Library of Dance source! Does not look a likely one does it. That was brilliant, thank you again.

Actually I got a bit lost in the magazine itself, particularly the poetic and music section, a very pleasant half hour.
