Richard & Jane's Marriage
« on: Thursday 25 April 19 17:14 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a Marriage between Richard Hughes born Conway, Caernarvonshire 1812 & Jane ? also born Conway 1830. The first child I know of is Richard born 1846 Conway. They were living at Mount Pleasant Conway on the 1861 Census. Thanks for any help  :)

Jane would have been just sixteen on marriage, also there is a big gap after Richard before the next child,  wonder if Jane was a second wife for Richard the master mariner

Thank you all for taking the time to research & reply, it is much appreciated.

Mike I had been thinking the same regarding Jane's age & perhaps she was Richard's second wife, on saying that I have seen many times before girl's marrying that young with parents consent.

We can discount the marriage in Caerhun but thanks Joe for the link, I found a copy of the register for this marriage & that Richard & Jane lived in Caerhun & he was a labourer, both coming from farming families, so doubt very much they are the right ones.

Keyboard I had another look on GRO for MMN for all the children & apart from Ellis & Edward as you have said MMN being Thomas also Robert's Mum was Thomas too. The other children were Richard's mum Jones, Anne's mum Hughes, John's mum Roberts or Hughes so really not getting anywhere with that method at all. The 1841 & 1851 Census you have mentioned could have been the same Robert but that Jane was born 1821 so I am now getting even more confused  ???

I would appreciate any more suggestions as to sorting out this puzzle.

I have found a death for Jane Hughes 19th June 1847 wife of Richard Hughes Mariner of Lancaster Square, Conway so it looks as if there were 2 wives both named Jane after all, as you thought Mike. Keyboard the Richard & Jane you found on the 1841 Census at the same address are most probably right too. It looks as if the first son Richard born 1846/47 was by the first wife Jane Jones, then the other 4 children by Jane Thomas. I have tried looking for both possible marriages with no luck, has anyone any further suggestions I could try please. Thanks for the help so far  :)
