"Swindon Advertiser" - Current
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 11:48 BST (UK) »
Swindon Advertiser is available online. I was looking for a recent death in the paper and came upon a few that have date of death in March 2019 but burial will be in May 2019.

Anyone suggest a reason why the long time between death & burial?

Thought it might be simply a bad transcription but there's more than just one.  ???
I can provide examples but as they're so recent I didn't want to upset anyone.

Thanks for your thoughts

The last two funerals in England I have had details of also had very long intervals between death and funeral.
One was from 23 January to 14th March. When I asked the same question I was told that’s how long the back log is, and even finding a place for the after party was difficult.

I suppose it might vary from town to town.
Seems incredible to me.

Oh gosh - thanks Mckha489

I would never have expected a backlog to cause that sort of delay

As you say - incredible  :o

In some cases, might the cause of death have been queried? Might a coroner have required further investigations? T

Good idea Toby.

It's likely a coroner was involved in some but most of the notices in this newspaper had a long time between death & burial.

Sad to read it might be simply be a backlog although it's possible there might be other reasons.

In 1947, 1963 & more recently, where a severe, cold winter was in progress, it was impossible for many weeks to bury the dead for the ground was like iron. Does this fit with any? T
