Navy accidental death
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 16:53 BST (UK) »
Hi
Please could some one point me in the right direction. I am trying to find some information about a man who was in the Navy and died in 1983 in Glasgow. He was boarding a ship and slipped off the gangplank.

I am not sure where to start looking.

Thanks

Depending on the information you require perhaps you could order a copy of his death certificate.
Obtainable from  www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  at a cost of approx. 12 + postage.

What was his name, and was he a Royal Navy person, a merchant navy person, a fisherman, or a recreational sailor and in which month ?

Thank you everyone for your replys.
I have very little information about the person. He is my friends father he left when she was four years old. The information I gave is all we have at the moment.

I don't want to give his name with out permission. I am working with my friend tonight, so will see if she gives the ok.
I will have a look on the sites you have adviced.

Thanks for your help.

If he died in service then there may be some information here:  http://veterans.mod.uk/

My uncle died in service in 1980 and the site gives information such as his service number, rank, DoB, the ship he was serving on & where he was buried.

Malkys reply is pertinent. Sounds like a Merchant Seaman to me. A name is needed if at all possible.
