A Chelsea Pensioner.
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 18:57 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please.

George Alderson was born about 1870 in Staffordshire, he moved to Wrexham and in 1909 he married his second wife Emily Hughes who was born about 1872. (census ages)

George Alderson died in March 1965  at the Royal Hospital Chelsea aged 95 and is buried in Wrexham Cemetery.
In the 1939 register is a George  Alderson born   1 Dec 1869  at Brentford and Chiswick, Middlesex, retired gardener .
High Rd , Brentford and Chiswick, Middlesex,
Occupation: Retired Gardener, at the side it says ARP warden , Brentford.
Wife Emily  born 2 Nov 1871, She died in 1956 in Ealing and in not buried in Wrexham.
Emily`s daughter Betty Hughes born 1 April 1898 is also  there.
So was George a Chelsea pensioner, I can find no records for him for WW1.

If it is any help,  George ALDERSON born Castle Church Stafford in 1870, enlisted in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry 24 February 1888. His Militia attestation papers are on Findmypast.

I have not found papers for later service to warrant dying in the Chelsea Hospital.

This will be the one who died in The Royal Chelsea Hospital, Probate of his well was granted to Doris Lilian CARTER married woman.

Thanks.
My George married in Wrexham in 1889 and in 1891  they have 2 sons   aged 1 and  2 months.
Only in 1901 he states he was born Radford, Staffordshire, otherwise just Stafford.
Unfortunately I don`t have FindMyPast only Anc.

Just found a pension record dated 1917 Wrexham which I think is him. Problem is Ancestry takes me to another paid site to view.

I think you have got the right one, 1871 and 1881 he is in Castle Church with parents Thomas and Jane.
Is there anything in the records you found to confirm this please.

If it's of any interest, The Sphere newspaper of 28 Dec 1963 carries a photograph of 94 year old Chelsea Pensioner George Alderson.

The military papers referred to by Jebber give an address of Beaumaris Road, Newport, Salop and state that he was a Groom, working for Rev P Roberts of Bridgnorth, Salop and was aged 18yrs and 2 months in Feb 1888
