Boarding School near Llangollen, 1851

I found a relative at what seems to be a boarding school, in the 1851 census.  The reference is HO107, piece 2509, fol 439, page 21.
The dwelling is named as Pen-ddol, parish of Trevor Uchef, near Llangollen, where Mrs Matthews, a widow, has two young daughters and her two sisters as teachers.  The pupils are three girls, one aged 11, two were 13 and two boys, one 11 and my chap (whose family were mainly in Lancashire) only 5.

This seems an unlikely spread of ages, and I wonder if anyone with local knowledge could offer more information about this establishment.

I don't have any local knowledge, but there is an advertisement for the sale of "Penddol" near Llangollen in 1853, it seems to be a farm occupied by Robert WRIGHT ("or his undertenants")

"All the Capital FREEHOLD FARM AND LANDS, called "Penddol", with the House, Cottages, and Buildings thereon, containing by admeasurement 28a. 1r. 27p. or thereabouts be the same more or less, situate close the town of Llangollen, in the county of Denbigh, and now or late in the holding or occupation of Mr. Robert Wright or his undertenants.

This Farm will be offered in One Lot or in the following Nine Lots or such other Lots and order as shall be declared at the time of Sale ..."

I think it's on what's now known as Abbey Road, Llangollen.  This is the main road to the north of the River Dee leading to Valle Crucis Abbey and the Horseshoe Pass.

I went to school there ( Grammar not Mrs Matthews's!) and remember long walks along there and Dinbren road which formed a circular route on wet games afternoon.

Looking through the census pages, Pen ddol looks to be quite a long road, so I would think it was what is now Abbey Road.

Have you followed Ellen Matthews (nee Williams) back to Salford? She seems to have moved to Llangollen in the late 1840s, given the age of her youngest child (b. Llangollen).
