Switzerland- MAry Lenzie - bn 1856

Good afternoon everyone,

I have been attempting for a while now to find the birth record of my g-grandmother who was born in Switzerland - at least according to her Canadian marriage document. According to that document she married my German g-grand father Charles Coy in 1876 in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Her parents were named in this document as Ignatius and Martina Lenzie ( I am dont know if Mary came to Canada alone or with her parents - I have no evidence for either place).

I have been looking for her birth record to confirm her birth info as well as who her parents (and possibly where they resided). Unfortunately I have hit the brick wall. If anyone can help with confirming these two things it would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss as to where this info is hiding.

all the surnames on Familysearch for Lenzie in Switzerland- are Lenzi - without the e on the end - so have a trawl through these and see if anything catches your attention

According to the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland database http://www.hls-dhs-dss.ch/famn/index.php the place of origin for Lenzi is    Gipf-Oberfrick in canton Aargau. You should contact the civil records office, but it seems the registers may have been filmed by FHL see here for info on this http://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/kant/agallg-e.htm, scroll down to Genealogical Information. The name in the marriage register is Lenze, not Lenzie.

No. About 80km apart, unless you think that’s near!

Hi folks,

I looked again, you are right about the spelling of her surname, although it could be a bad i at the end. Her name is spelt different ways in various documents unfortunately :-(

I looked at a map on google as to where Gipf-Oberfrick is located and it appears that this place in a little north east of Berne. It also appears to be located within the water system  to Karlsruhe German where her husband came from and was born. That makes me think they possibly know each other before coming to Canada? Family rumour has it they mat at the train station in Hamilton.
