The month of May is officially 'Local History Month'.

Where I live on Tyneside, there will be a number of interesting free events/activities taking place.  Here are just a few:

Local History Fair at North Shields library on 11 May  10 - 4

Local History Fair at Newcastle City Library - 11 May 10.30-3.

Tynemouth House of Correction - talk on 28 May 3.30 (free but essential to book).

Life in North East England in the 30s, 40s and 50s. - talk at th Whitley Bay library at 2.30 on 14 May.

Longbenton Village - talk at Longbenton library - 7 May 2.30. Free but booking essential.

Medieval Fun Day at Hylton Castle in Sunderland.

An illustrated talk on Royal Academy winning artist Victor Noble Rainbird in Sunderland.

Commemoration of life of Edith Cavell (This event is 12 but includes a meal of pie, mash and peas and a glass of wine/beer.)
