Griffiths Valuation - lessor is Rep?
« on: Saturday 04 May 19 02:19 BST (UK) »
I've just come across an entry in Griffith's Valuation for Parkaree in Limerick. The Immediate Lessor is "Reps Dr Keating".

I understand that the lessor could be represented by others for a number of reasons - lessor has died, was bankrupt, underage, was mentally ill.

Could being out the country be a reason? My 4g grandfather was a doctor who came to Australia in 1841. His father lived nearby in Knocknagranshy - am I right in thinking it could be him?

Thanks for the note of caution, hallmark.  I do have all the records for the Keatings in the area. My Dr Keating was the eldest son of Jeffery Keating and Johanna Kirby who farmed at nearby Knocknagranshy. He came to Australia as the ship's surgeon in 1841 and stayed, although his wife and children left behind in Dublin had expected him to return!

It was seeing a "Dr" Keating that made me think that his father or siblings might be collecting the rents in his name, to be paid to him when he came back to Ireland.

It is certainly possible...

I didn't have names etc when I was looking but the likes of Registered Deeds, Wills, Inheritances, Marriage Agrements might find him mentioned.

As I had no names when looking I am just posting an example ....it is for a Patrick in 1786 but it names his 3 sons.  Is there a similar one with a son Jeffery named on it?

Have you any idea of when he Married?  Check for Marriage Agreement/Settlement (Dowry)......

As you probably know the only Keating there was Rev George Keating....  Was he a Doctor of Divinity? etc

Is there a Will for him?

As you know, Jeffery is leasing from the Court of Chancery in 1849... then Edmond and others are leasing from Jeffery

The other Leases are "at Will"... with Col Newingham's name top of right page!

So, I make it out to be Col Newingham's estate that was at Chancery so Jeffery probably had his Reps representing his interests with the Court of Chancery!!

This is my interpretation of it and certainly open to being corrected!

I see William Monsell is named with Keating in GV
There is what looks like a complex land case (Croom)1871 involving O'Grady claimant Synan respondent, Synan Claimant Monsell and Keating respondents, Monsell and Keating claimants Newenham respondent.
Don't have time to look at it all now but don't think Keatings full name is given.

Perhaps something could be found in the Registered Deeds etc that would give Keating full name.

Looks like Keatings made a lot of Petitioning!!   ;D
