Uniform identification 2
« on: Monday 06 May 19 19:02 BST (UK) »
Following on from my other post I also have images of a German soldier who was kind to the family during the occupation of Poland. Any information on his rank etc. would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thank you

He's a Lance Corporal.
It appears he's recently received the Iron Cross as only the ribbon is worn on normal dress.
I can't make out the pocket badge which would indicate which branch of the Army he was in.
The 2nd. is a bit odd as he's wearing an Officers cap.

Although not what you asked about, the silver badge on his breast is the 'Infantry Assault Badge' and the darker one just below it appears to be the 'Wound Badge' 3rd Class.  A Google search of those should give you more detail.
(1) Janions of Cheshire, Lancashire, Hawaii, Vancouver and Seattle.
(2) Gregorys of Tarporley, Cheshire.
(3) Pughs of 'The New Pale' near Frodsham and Delamere in Cheshire.
(4) Nevills of Llanelly, Llangennech and Felinfoel.
(5) Yaldens of Ovington/Lovington in Hampshire.

Thank you for getting back to me, any information is greatly appreciated. There is a thought he may have also served in the Afrikan Corps. I don't know if that relates to his uniform in the picture of him when older?

Hi, he might have served in the 'Afrika Korps' at some stage but those three uniforms are not desert-type. If you google 'Afrika Korps uniforms' and look at images you will see it was a thinner fabric and sand-coloured. These should also show a woven band was also worn on the cuff that said 'Afrika Korps' which is not seen/visible on your photos. Sorry I can't offer more detail than that. Maybe other users can add some further detail.

If the 3rd. is the same man it would have to have been taken before the other 2 as there's no rank chevron or Iron Cross ribbon.

Hi

We have managed to find a couple of more pictures of him which are a bit clearer and have some different badges. Any help with identifying these would be greatly appreciated.
