Should have added, if your wife is next of kin, put the application in  her name.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Serendipity! A fellow Rootschat contributor who runs a database for the Royal Leicestershire Regiment web site has taken the time to trawl copies of the regimental journals for mention of 4852597 Frederick Fox and has come up with entries in 1926 and 1927 for him which I am sure will be of interest:

https://www.royalleicestershireregiment.org.uk/search/items?collection=6694&q=4852597&action=search&visibility=1

Would you just confirm that the medals you have for him Leicestershire Regiment) are WW2 medals?

Hi Craig, It's an Efficiency Medal.

See here for more details https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efficiency_Medal

Scroll down the page a bit and you will see a pic of the same medal.
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Your thought that these may be the same Frederick may well be right.  Only his record will say for sure.

I take it there are no WW2 medals although even 1893 born could have served.

Best to get the records which may show that 29570 and 4852597 are the same man (numbers went to service  7 digit numbers in 1920/21).  That may unlock the medals too, the main service medals were not engraved in WW2

I think the efficiency medal would have been gazetted so we should be able to get the date of the award - but unfortunately gazettes-online is down at the moment !
