Lilian Hodgson born Leeds 9.12.1912 - illegitimate. Father unknown.

This girl was my late mother's half sister.   She was supposedly taken to Canada around age 2, with a couple who were emigrating,  as her mother (my maternal grandmother) could not care for her.   WW1 was underway in 1914. Were children really shipped overseas then.

We have only recently learned of the birth of this child who was the second illegitimate daughter.  The first was raised within the family but not with her mother.

I have a copy of the birth entry which I managed to find without much trouble.

Assuming that the story of the child's emigration to Canada is correct is it at all possible to find her and what happened to her.  It is possible that she was adopted by the couple before she left England.  But I wonder is it possible that someone out in Canada had a mother or grandmother born in England on the date I show above.

A long shot I know.  There is always the possibility that her going to Canada was just made up by the family when in actual fact she just went into care here.

Its quite possible that Lilian travelled under her new surname.   :-\
