William Musson newspaper report
« on: Tuesday 07 May 19 21:26 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with a newspaper report from November 1848, when William Musson was accused of an assault on Ann Nedham in Sneiton. It seems that in the following March 1849 it said the charge of rape was ignored.[Nottingham Guardian Thurs. 15 March, Lent assizes]. I was wondering if it was the same William Musson that I am looking for and if it gave any details of occupation etc.
Many Thanks

Hi
In the March Article William was 21
The Nov 17 1848 Nottingham Review and Advertiser gives more detail
William is a Private in the First Foot Guards and Ann is of Princes St Nottingham.
He was on leave from  his regiment stationed in London.
She is 18 a seamer of hose and she has known him  2 years.Their fathers are well acquainted.
He enlisted 10 months ago and called at the house 3 weeks ago and has been calling ever since.
There is talk about a trip to Carlton Wakes and various witnesses.
Mentioned amongst them are Joseph Musson,Ann and Edward Musson.
Also Sarah Wilkins ,Mary Sheppard, Henry Savage ,Eliza and George Needham.
She was attacked after a night out with the prisoner.
He was bailed for £100.

Does any of that strike a bell?

At a guess I think he's the one at Cartlton in 1841 age 15 son of Edward and Ann a carpenter.
In 1851 Edward is born 1804 Stoke Bardolph and Ann 1807.

Ann Needham is the daughter of George and Eliza ,on the 1851 census at Princes St as Ann Baker aged 21 seamer born Mansfield.

Thank you so much for this information. It appears that William is not the same as I was looking for, he was a boatman. Thanks for clarifying.
