Is there an Ayr in New Brunswick?
« on: Wednesday 08 May 19 08:34 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have found the following birth announcement but I'm not totally sure where the baby was born. He is their first child.

"Dublin Evening Mail 18 June 1863
BIRTHS
Abbott-Jun 8, at Ayr, N.B., the wife of Frederick T Abbott, Esq., Assistant Surgeon, 41st Regiment of a son."

If I can pinpoint the place hopefully I can find the lad's name, I believe he died in infancy as he doesn't appear in the 1871 census with his parents
By 1864 the mother is back in Dublin having her second son. 1869 the family are in Stoke Damerel and by 1871 in Lancashire. The father dies in 1871...

Parents
Frederick Tydd Abbott 1832 Dublin -1871
Susan Kate Benn 1835 Dublin -1902  (formerly married to Henry Albert Lee) she is sometimes down  as just Kate, but on her death in Dublin she is down as Susan Catherine Julia Anne Abbott

All I need is confirmation of the location of Ayr... New Brunswick or Scotland?

thanks in advance
Jenny

Would it be North Britain (i.e  the old name for  Scotland).

"Why, a Scotch sort of a gentleman, as I said before," returned mine host; "they are all gentle, ye mun know, though they ha' narra shirt to back; but this is a decentish hallion—a canny North Briton as e'er cross'd Berwick Bridge — I trow he's a dealer in cattle".
