Joseph Thomas Jonathan Jones Private New Brunswick Regiment killed 1916

I am interested in why Joseph Thomas Jonathan Jones born Pensnett Staffordshire in 1896 to Joseph Merchant Jonesand Pamela Tranter was fighting in the New Brunswick Regiment. He was killed 1916 at St Elois Belgium.
I have him the 1901 census living at CottageStreet Kings winford Staffordshire with hisfamily

I have nothing else until his death from the war graves project.
Recently my mother had her DNA test with ancestry done and it shows up a 4/6th cousin in New Brunswick. I contacted the person who is now living in Ontario but her father was born in New Brunswick. They have no knowledge of Joseph T J Jones.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A Joseph Jones age 6 sailed to New Brunswick in 1903.  He may have been what were called "Home Children", the archives has records of those.  Guesswork though!

PS I don't find him on the CWGC site, what was his date of death?

He was killed in action 2 June 1916, re read the War Graves project information again and he was of Canadian nationality. It gives his parents as Joseph Merchant Jones and Pamela Tranter Dudley who I know were his parents.  Looking more likely he was a home child then.
He is buried in Reininghelst Cemetery.

Got him. His CWGC entry is as John Thomas Jones not Joseph etc.  The war diary part of the archives came to life although the 26th Infantry diary doesn't record his death - not unusual.

Not sure who, either me or Ancestry, but having a hard time finding his attestation and personnel
files.

I wonder why on the war graves project information it only names his parents. I don’t recognise the names you have found but the area is correct.

I assume JM Jones was his dad.

Aha, I found his att. papers and file, they say he was born in Birmingham, that's why I passed
over them 5 times.

John T. Jones, (looks like the T was added later), b. May 8, 1896 Birmingham, occupation,
millman, single, he attested Nov. 14, 1914 in St. John, New Brunswick, next of kin Joseph Jones,
32 Brierley Hill, Stafford, England. Other addresses within the file Joseph M. Jones, 100 Lower Church St., Pensnett, Nr. Didley, Worchestershire and Miss Florence Ganter, 32 Newtram, Brockmore (sp) Staffs.
